In 1974 the first UK DPAS was set up by two fans still at school.
With the permission of the band's managers they issued seven A4
single page newsletters between then and 1975, along with posters,
bands prints, badges etc.
The newsletters were very basic but historically interesting as they
react to events at the time. A detailed history of the club appears
in DTB Issue 59, showing some of their output.
The original newsletters are now very rare but with permission from
the guy who ran it, we have reprinted the newsletters as a set. These
are digital laser copies but faithfully reflect the homemade and home
typed nature of the originals.
It was after this club folded that the newsletter which became Darker
Than Blue was begun. The reprints are available from the dpas online store.
The (new) DPAS published 59 newsletters
& magazines from its first single page 'Ritchie
Blackmore Appreciation Society' news-sheet in October
1975.
We have madehortened digest versions of every
issue. They read as a chronological history of Deep
Purple and its family as seen through the eyes of
the members of the DPAS.
